Shapeless…Wow, this is tough
What a fun challenge so far, but definitely a challenge.
Haven’t created something really new in a while. A lot of the past work has been in Damned and Cursed. The last standalone I did was Soul Insurance, and now I’m reminded of some of the pains I went through creating that novel.
When you say “vampire”, or “werewolf”, immediate images come to mind, one of the joys of writing supernatural work. I don’t usually have to describe what fangs are, or that werewolves are covered in fur.
But if you say “shapeshifter”, well, that takes a bit of work, and could mean a lot of different things. 🙂 Brady has a very unique skill-set, and it’s been fun bringing that to life. I guess you could draw some comparisons to someone like Mystique from X-Men, but he goes beyond that, as you’ll see. I just hope the words I’m throwing down are describing the scenes like I see it in my head. Really, how would you describe someone using part of their body to create a chain-link fence? 🙂
Brady and Lily are also perhaps the most “broken” characters I’ve ever created (Jack would not accept being called broken). Their stories have been just as fun to explore as Brady’s powers.

How close is this to being complete for beta reading?

Oh it’ll be a while yet. I’m guessing I’m about one third done. Things should pick up, as many of the later scenes are already in my head.

While I’m waiting for Shapeless I’ll pick up Soul Insurance
I’ve read and enjoyed all the Damned and Cursed series. My only complaint is I want to read more of your work and you write much more slowly than I read.
Not really complaining…just saying HURRY UP!!

My standalone novels aren’t quite as “big” as the Damned and Cursed series (the zombie novel might disagree though). But I still like Soul Insurance. I thought it was a neat idea with some fun characters in there.

I’d like to know when Damned & Cursed book 8 will be available. It’s been quite a while. I keep the last book read in every series I read on my wish list. It’s a good way to keep track of what I read…This was a really good series, but I I hope book 7 wasn’t the end.

More Damned and Cursed is definitely coming. 🙂 After the current work in progress (Shapeless), I’m going back to the series. This one will mostly center on Kevin and witches. That’s what I like about the series though. It’s easy to shift around, tell multiple stories with other characters.

Trying to catch up on comments. 🙂
Two more chapters to go. “Hoping” to be able to say “first draft done” within a week or two. Then I’ll go through and edit, which typically doesn’t take too long. Finally, the light at the end of the tunnel.
The chapters are done in my head, so hopefully it won’t take long to write them down. Very fun novel. I hope this one catches an audience. 🙂
