Post-Shapeless Update
Shapeless has been out a few weeks now. I honestly have no idea how’s it doing, as I haven’t checked any reviews. I wonder how long it will be before I crack. š I know it’s not a Damned and Cursed novel, but hopefully it finds an audience. I tried a few twists in this novel. Brady and Lily are, by far, the most “broken” characters I’ve ever created.
This novel was oh-so-close to being a Damned and Cursed novel. I had two endings in mind, and told myself as I wrote that I’d let the ending “pick itself”. One ending would have tied it to the supernatural world. The other is what is in there now. When it finally came time, the world of Shapeless didn’t feel like a Damned and Curse setting. So it remained a standalone novel. I’m not sure if Brady’s skill-set of changing shape fits in with vampires, werewolves, etc.
But it’s fun to imagine. š
Next up, another entry in the Damned and Cursed universe. The details for this one took a while to come to me, and I’m still a little hazy on some spots. But it is moving along, and sometime in early March I’ll have both the new cover online as well as a sample chapter.

Well, I bought it and I loved it. Once again, you made me immediately care about the main characters and I was sucked right into the story and was rooting for them to overcome their trials. Great job and thank you for the ride. I can not wait for the Damned and Cursed book.

I very much enjoyed the book, and I think you made the right decision on the ending, even if it does leave me a bit curious as to what happens next. It felt right for the characters.

I loved this book. This article reminded me to go leave a review on Amazon… I’m bad about forgetting to do that. Gave it 5 stars though and it deserved them.

Thanks for the words and reviews, guys. š
Yeah, I’ve heard a few comments, some good, some bad, basically saying “What’s happens next? You left it so open.”
We’ll see how I feel in another six months, but I still love the ending, even after “post novel glow”. š
I think the story was mostly about Brady and Lily, them coming together, healing a bit after rough childhoods, Brady learning just a little more about his powers. And of course, cool shape-shifting tricks.
I left the ending and beginning open, actually. Where Brady came from is never “really” revealed, not 100%. I left enough clues I think so people can get a theory going. I know some people hate open endings, but for this work it felt right, for whatever reason.

I didn’t mean to suggest that the ending was unsatisfying in any way. I stand with those who hate cliffhanger endings on books, where it feels like the story wasn’t finished but the book was long enough to be released. I didn’t get that experience with Shapeless. It felt like the story was finished, but it also felt like there could be more story to tell in future books, as a whole new world just opened up. I like a story that inspires my imagination. I just don’t like to be left hanging.

As a huge fan, I got it as soon as it came out. Over all I really enjoyed it.
The only thing that struck me was that Brady could have been a stronger character of courses, Jack Kursed is one of my all time favorite characters so I kept hoping to see more of his personality.
The characters were well written and I could see that you took the time and effort to make them more “real”. I would have loved to see more of Brady’s life growing up. I can only imagine what I would have gotten upto in his place :-).
I’d love to see him really make an effort to explore his gift.

I tried to give him a little more “edge” by the end. He even goes so far as to taunt those chasing him. He knows they can’t capture him.
I wish I would have done a flashback scene or two now. š I have some ideas in my head of what his life was like growing up, but wish I would have “showed” it more.

Donovan read like Jack Kursed without the curse. You did fine with Brady. but try and keep him quirky and odd.

Ah, I forgot to update paperback. Not many ask about it anymore. But paperback is definitely coming.
The hold up is that I have to create the back cover and spine myself. I have the back cover done, and am working on the spine now. After that, it’s off to the paper mill. Hopefully next week sometime, if the cover looks good done by my hands. š

I just finished the book. Good, fun and I love your ending. As I was reading it I could see how you could have tied it into the other series but I applaud you going the route you did. You chose the harder path as you cant just witch your way to answers. Now… be bold and take this direction and run with it. So many exciting possibilities.

I ran into a snag. Sorry for the lack of posting on that matter. I’m going to have to work with a new cover artist on the paperback version of the cover, as I don’t have the skills needed to make the spine, etc. I should actually be talking to her today.

I enjoyed it until the last page. Honestly, I don’t understand the ending – what was it he saw out his window that was meaningful to him? Lots of people loading vehicles and taking photos? Didn’t get it at all.

Sorry for the delay. The cover for the latest book took a while, and now we can start on the paperback. That shouldn’t take long, though, as it’s only a back cover.
I’ll send you an email privately shortly. Want to send you a copy myself for being so patient. š
