I added a forum to the site. The link is in the header above, and also simply at www.glennbullion.com/forums. In this day of Facebook, Twitter, and other various social media that I have no idea how to properly use, I’m not sure a forum will “take off” exactly. But it is another avenue to talk with me and other readers of paranormal novels. It’s just a standard phpBB forum, nothing special. Register for a username, creates topics of discussion, that kind of stuff.
I remember a couple meeting through a discussion forum and actually getting married later. (Gone Gold / Octopus Overlords, howdy 🙂 )
Editing will start now on Witch Trial, which won’t take too long, compared to actually writing it. I’ll keep everyone posted. 🙂
Hey again guys. I put out a new sample of Witch Trial. It’s listed under “Excerpt #2” on the main book page.
Standard stuff applies. 🙂 It might not be what’s in the “final version”. I’m sure I’ll change some word choices. I have no doubt that as hard as I tried, there are misspellings in here, too.
This is in the middle of the story, so some things won’t make sense. Give it a whirl, see if it at least gets you curious/excited.
101K words. MUCH longer than I thought it would end up being. Is it too long? Is the finale too complicated? I hope not, but I’ll be finding all that out soon.
Next is editing, and then readers will take a peek, assuming I still have any. I know some readers have been upset with a lack of updates, one of my weaknesses. But it’s hard for an introvert to post simple things like “I’m still writing, 80K words in”, etc etc.
One project I’m setting in motion is to add a forum to the website. I certainly don’t expect a huge, blossoming online community, but this could possibly be a place for readers to talk about my books, or any other books for that matter.
I also have to fix the “link to Facebook” plugin. So, I have a few things I’m working on, which won’t take long, and then editing begins.
Thoughts on the finished novel.
The finale was fun, everything I thought it would be. But oh so complicated to write. I hope it’s not complicated to read. There are a lot of moving parts, stories coming together, etc.
I think the “guest star” turned out well. Sometimes, the guest stars don’t have the impact they did in my head. But this lived up, I think, and the next novel will be fun (which will be a series novel). It will take place not too long after this one, and the “guest” will become a “main” once again.
The villains in this one, some of my best. They are always a weak point to me. They don’t steal much time from the main cast, but their motivations come across solid.
Kevin has become nearly as much of a challenge to write as Jack, mainly because of his powers. I have to find ways to keep him growing, both as a person and as a witch. He’s difficult to balance in that technically he is the “strongest”, but with enough “weaknesses” to make him fall in line with the others. Also, writing magic is not easy at all. 🙂
Okay, enough babble. I’ll have a forum up in a few days (either bbPress or phpBB), and hopefully the Facebook link. The book, the new entry stuff, is DONE (always a good feeling). So, it won’t be much longer now.
I feel bad that it’s taken me this long to pound out Witch Trial, but I’m still holding on to my 1-2 books a year, so I think I’m doing okay still.
I’m “finally” on the finale. Maybe another 2-3 chapters, and that’s it. As always, the novel blew up, became bigger than I thought (at 78K words, and I thought it would be done at that point).
Just some random thoughts, without spoilers.
I haven’t dedicated entire chapters to the “villains” in this novel, but I’ve really enjoyed writing for them. They are unlike anything I’ve ever done.
That being said, this is still Kevin’s show, for the most part. Everything I’ve been building to with him is getting ready to be written down, and I’m excited. This is the biggest challenge he’s ever come across.
Even with limited page time, I’ve enjoyed the visit of another character into Kevin’s world.
Leese’s side of the story, to me at least, has been just as strong as Kevin’s. Writing about a human, when you have a powerful witch on the other side, I thought would be a problem. Leese has actually been around since the first book. It’s been fun to explore her end of things.
As has happened previously, some elements of this novel will bleed over into the next. The next story is forming in my head, and it’s going to be close to Demon’s Doorway in that the whole group will have a role.
Well hi. 🙂 Many people may have forgotten that I actually write novels from time to time. But, for those that didn’t, and can still vaguely remember characters like Alex, Kevin, Victoria, Jack….then this post is for you.
I’m still working on Witch Trial. I do go radio silent, and I’m sorry for that. But take that as a good thing. It means I’m working. 🙂 But I promise to make a better effort to get more posts out there. The problem is a lot of those posts are just “don’t worry, I’m working on it”.
It’s 50K words in at the moment, so more than half done. Cool thing is ideas from this novel will flow into the next one, so I’ve already got ideas ready to go for that one. This novel threw a few stumbling blocks at me, but the rest of it is mapped out, and the finale is going to be a lot of fun, and challenging at the same time.
Getting ready to get back to a character I haven’t touched in a while, so that is going to be fun. Funny thing is I have to re-read one of my old novels to get a feel for the character all over again.
Here is the link to get a small taste. The back cover description, the actual cover, and Chapter 1. Keep in mind all of this may change before it’s said and done. Let me know what you think, about anything. I love the cover, but I’m trying to see if we can make the actual title stand out more. The font color sort of “rainbows”, and I can’t it read when the thumbnail gets too small.  The W and L in the title sort of vanishes.
This is proof that I am working on it, despite my now-typical lack of updates. 🙂
Shapeless has been out a few weeks now. I honestly have no idea how’s it doing, as I haven’t checked any reviews. I wonder how long it will be before I crack. 🙂 I know it’s not a Damned and Cursed novel, but hopefully it finds an audience. I tried a few twists in this novel. Brady and Lily are, by far, the most “broken” characters I’ve ever created.
This novel was oh-so-close to being a Damned and Cursed novel. I had two endings in mind, and told myself as I wrote that I’d let the ending “pick itself”. One ending would have tied it to the supernatural world. The other is what is in there now. When it finally came time, the world of Shapeless didn’t feel like a Damned and Curse setting. So it remained a standalone novel. I’m not sure if Brady’s skill-set of changing shape fits in with vampires, werewolves, etc.
But it’s fun to imagine. 🙂
Next up, another entry in the Damned and Cursed universe. The details for this one took a while to come to me, and I’m still a little hazy on some spots. But it is moving along, and sometime in early March I’ll have both the new cover online as well as a sample chapter.
Here is the link on the Amazon site. As soon as I get a back cover done, it will be out in paperback as well.
As always, let me know what you think. Leave reviews, comments, thoughts. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your pets.
I enjoyed Brady Jones and Lily Ferguson. I had a lot of fun with the people in this book. Even the villain, Donovan, was fun to write. The big challenge was the shapeshifting scenes, something I’ve never done before. I’m not going to claim shapeshifting is a new idea. It’s definitely been done before. But there isn’t enough social awareness, like there is with vampires and werewolves. Describing a vampire or a zombie is easy. Describing a shapeshifter, not so much. 🙂
I’ll give a more detailed post later, after we’re out of spoiler territory. This novel was very close to being another Damned and Cursed novel, but I’ll go into that later.
First off, see the above. 🙂 It’s coming. Just waiting on Amazon to finalize. I’ll post the link when it’s available, although it shouldn’t be hard to find on Amazon. Haven’t published a book since Four Centuries. The publishing process is taking a little longer than I remember, but I can only imagine how Amazon’s KDP has changed in the past year.
Next piece of news. I’m working now on the next Damned and Cursed novel. I’m only on Chapter 2, so it will be a while yet. But just wanted everyone to know that it is happening as we speak. I’ve even got the title. The official title is “Witch Trial”.  I wonder who it could be about. 🙂
And now for the bad news. After getting the title and back copy, I always try to get the cover made. Having an actual cover early in the writing process, for me at least, is a huge motivation to get to work. I found out that my cover artist passed away back in October.
I used to try to do my own covers in the beginning. They turned out terrible. I lucked into finding Donna Casey, and she did an amazing job. I’ve written eleven books so far. She did the cover on every single one. I’m going to miss working with her very much.
Done editing. Wow. Sorry it took so long. I was hoping to have this novel completely done by Christmas, but that didn’t happen. The good news I guess is that it’s ready for “beta” before Christmas, which is better than nothing.
So, as is common by now by readers who know me, it’s time to get this novel into the hands of four to six readers that would like to check out the latest work and offer feedback. As I always say, any feedback is welcome. 🙂 Some like to critique the story elements, plot, characters, etc. Others take a technical / grammar approach. If anyone would like to read Shapeless and let me know their thoughts, just send me a message using the contact form or comment on this post.
Ha, important note: This is not a Damned and Cursed novel, so I’m sure that might sway people who might read it. 🙂 Don’t want readers to go “Bah, this isn’t a Damned and Cursed and he didn’t tell us”. Still, I think it’s a fun read, and any fans of my “style” (assuming I have one) would probably enjoy this novel.
I’ll look over any possible takers over the weekend and send the novel along.
Other thoughts about Shapeless:
Such a challenge to write. I hope the “action” scenes translate well. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before.
This is the longest novel I’ve written. The crazy thing is I had more planned. I had to cut some things out, entire subplots. Another reason why editing went so long. I had a subplot foreshadowed for the first third of the novel that I never got back to.
I still have to put a sample out there. I just don’t know what, to be honest. Maybe I’ll take the easy way out and include chapter one. I’m not a great mystery writer, but I didn’t want to sample the later chapters in fear of giving anything away.
