If you’re reading this, you probably have already read my stuff on an eReader, so I don’t know if this will interest my site readers. π But I’ll announce anyway. All my previous work, consisting of:
Demonspawn
A Witch To Live
Jack Kursed
Mind Slide
Are available in paperback format. I see Amazon already has them listed, and they’ll be listed in other upcoming channels over the weeks. I’ve only ever seen the covers on a monitor, and to actually see them in print is very cool. They’re quite sharp-looking. π
The paperback version of each book is $11.99. The eBook price remains the same at $2.99.
From now on, I’ll release the print version at the same time as the eBook version.
A Facebook fan page has finally been created for me and my books. Some people may be more comfortable commenting and reading through Facebook, so I figured that would be a good way to go. The little Facebook icon in the upper right of glennbullion.com will take you there, of course. And the link is facebook.com/glennbullionbooks.
Print book versions of all my books (Demonspawn, A Witch to Live, Jack Kursed, Mind Slide) are on the way. Tomorrow the proof of Demonspawn will arrive, and it finally feels like I’m getting somewhere. I’ll go through it, make sure it looks good, then out it goes. So I’m guessing maybe a few weeks before every single book is available. I will probably do some kind of giveaway, but still haven’t worked out the details yet.
Right now the next novel is underway. I should probably be marketing Jack Kursed, but the best marketing is to keep writing. I think I’ve settled on the title, but that could change in the next six months or so. It’s called Soul Insurance, and I’ll be throwing the first chapter or so of that online soon. I need some early feedback on it, as I don’t want to completely miss the mark on what I want to do with it.
With Soul Insurance I’m trying to create a new world, a slightly different version of the world we live in now. This is definitely challenging. In writing this novel I’m finding it much more difficult than creating a novel based in a world with vampires and werewolves. I think that’s because a lot of the groundwork has already been laid in books and movies. You can say “vampire”, and an image immediately pops into mind. Now, some vampires sparkle, some fry in sunlight, but you get the idea. But if I say I’m writing a book about a world with souls in it, that might confuse people. π
It really makes me feel for fantasy writers. How do they do it?
I don’t want to go into too much detail. I’m hoping the sample speaks for itself, and people can read it and understand the world without having to refer back to a blog post. But if I had to throw out a teaser, imagine a world where reincarnation is not only real, but is also a business. Souls exist, and we know this because everyone can see them.
And I’ll leave the teaser at that. I think I’ve done an okay job in the first few chapters of introducing the characters, and the world they live in, without a lot of info-dumps. The first 10K words have been a challenge, but I think I’m almost past the “introduce the world” hump.
I’ll have to take a short break soon from Soul Insurance because I have a little work to do on my other books (besides Dead Living). They’ll all be going into print, so I’ll need to work with my cover artist on that. If you want an actual print copy of my other novels, this is good news.
In summary:
The next novel is called Soul Insurance. As always, I’d like to get halfway done, get a covered designed, then add it to the Coming Soon section.
I’ll be posting a sample of Soul Insurance soon.
Print versions of Demonspawn, A Witch to Live, Jack Kursed, and Mind Slide are on the way.
Jack Kursed is out. Here’s a link to send you over to the Jack Kursed page for links to take you to Amazon and Smashwords. Now Dead Living is all by itself in the coming soon column. π
I’ll put out the description here, in case anyone is on the fence. Hopefully this will grab some attention. These blurbs / descriptions are so hard to write.
The victim of a witchβs curse, Jack has been awake for two hundred years. Unable to die, unable to sleep, heβs trapped in a state of existence that no one can relate to, not even his vampire best friend Victoria.
Using his unique condition, he has helped Victoria in keeping the supernatural world at bay. Evil vampires, werewolves, and monsters have all died at their hand. But heβs about to face his biggest challenge, eight-year-old orphan Tiffany.
Tiffany shows Jack a side of life heβs never seen. A beautiful, hopeful world, where even someone full of rage and disdain for mortal life can find happiness.
However, when his new life and friends are in danger, Jack will unleash a fury two hundred years in the making.
Jack Kursed takes place in the same world as Demonspawn and A Witch To Live, so if you enjoyed those two novels, you may enjoy Jack’s story. I’ve never created a character like Jack before, and I imagine some readers will like following his tale, and others will not like him at all. I had a great time writing him, but he is not the typical hero I’ve written about before. He’s definitely not Alex or Kevin. He does not discover amazing powers within him and use them to defend people. Jack is the victim of a witch’s curse that grants him immortality. Immortality may sound like fun, but not only can he not die, but he also can’t sleep. This simple fact twists him over the years. He is bitter, jealous of mortals, and does not care about them as a whole.
As with my other novels, I tried to add flavor if you’ve read Demonspawn and/or A Witch to Live (and if you haven’t, why haven’t you? π ) but you should be able to follow Jack’s story without doing so. Victoria the vampire returns once again (along with a surprise or two), and I enjoyed fleshing out the relationship she has with Jack. I may have to take a shot at giving her her own novel one day.
I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave a review if you did or didn’t. π
I’ve been trying like the plague to avoid the term “series” for Demonspawn, A Witch To Live, and Jack Kursed. Each novel follows a different main character, yet takes place in the same world, and I tried my best to write each one in such a way that the others weren’t required reading. There was some flavor if you’d done so. Characters and events would pop up and readers who had checked out the others would say “Oh, that’s cool.” I also thought it was neat to “check in” on what the others were up to.
If things go like I’m hoping they do, I don’t think this idea will work much longer. If I go on after Jack Kursed, it will be close to impossible to go in the direction I want without readers at least being familiar with the other works. So, I need to come up with some way to get the other titles known, just something simple along the lines of “If you enjoyed Alex’s story in Demonspawn, you might enjoy Kevin’s story in A Witch to Live.” I’m also thinking about just saying something like “Check out the XYZ series.” That’s the tough part, coming up with an actual series title. Goodreads actually has A Witch To Live as Demonspawn #2, but that’s not really accurate to me.
This all came up from a beta reader for Jack Kursed (I love my beta readers, thanks again so much to all of you). She liked Jack Kursed, but didn’t understand some of the things from A Witch To Live because she’d never read it. She figured out most of what was happening on her own, but I might have to change a scene or two to keep my “no required reading” idea in check. I have to do a better job at marketing (something I’m terrible at) at tying these novels together. This is a challenge I never considered before. π
In a short while I’ll send out emails to the people who have volunteered to read Jack Kursed. Just to say ahead of time, thank you, as always. π I really appreciate the help I get in this.
Any feedback is useful. It could be something as simple as “You misspelled a word here” to “I don’t think that character would act that way there”. Β I gathered the list of people who volunteered through comments and a few emails I’ve gotten. I don’t think I missed anyone, but if you were supposed to get a copy and didn’t, please just let me know.
Always a nice feeling. The first draft of Jack Kursed is done. 91K words in total, not a bad length at all. What I’ll do now is play some games, Portal 2, some Walking Dead and The Old Republic. In a week or so I’ll start the editing process. After that it’s beta reading time. This is the fastest I’ve written a novel, and I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing yet. π
If anyone wants to throw their name into the beta reading hat, go ahead. I’ve already got at least one volunteer, and could always use more.
Thought I’d drop another update, more for my own sanity than anything else. π About 76K words in, and I think this one will probably end up at around 85-90K. So, getting close. It’s definitely neat that a side-plot from A Witch to Live could grow into its own novel. The only question, of course, is will people like it? When it comes time to edit and beta read I’ll put a chapter or two up so people can get an idea of what I’ve got in mind.
Speaking of A Witch to Live, it’s been doing pretty well. I’ve gotten some good feedback. People seem to like Kevin so far. The novel had a different feel, as the characters were much younger, still in school.
Jack Kursed will also have a different feel. π I like Jack’s personality, a much different type of guy than my other protagonists. It’s definitely been a fun write.
Will be adding this to the “Coming Soon” section today. I’m sure the description will change somewhat, it always does. I’m terrible at these things. π I love the cover. Around 55K words in, and cruising. Description incoming:
Meet Jack. Jack’s been awake for two hundred years, and he’s a little cranky.
