A Witch to Live…Finally
My latest novel, A Witch to Live, is available for sale. It costs $2.99 and is available at Amazon and Smashwords.
Check it out at Amazon and Smashwords.
Here is the official description that I’m hoping will make buyers go “Hey, that sounds interesting.”
Kevin always had one ability that set him apart from everyone else. Healing. He healed his classmate Rachel when they were six years old, even though it almost exposed him.
He lost his parents after starting high school. Now a senior, he struggles to stay out of his sisterβs way as she takes care of both of them. He sleeps on the couch in their one-bedroom apartment and walks to school. His sister is the only person he calls a friend. As if that werenβt enough, he discovers his power goes far beyond simple healing.
Kevin is a witch.
On top of everything, he has to deal with the surprises of the supernatural world. It turns out witch-hunters, vampires, and werewolves donβt like witches all that much. Kevin will need help from his new girlfriend Rachel, the sympathetic vampire Victoria, and every trick in his spell-book to survive.
And my own thoughts.
Nervous. Excited. Relieved. Terrified. All of the above. π
A Witch to Live takes place in the same world as Demonspawn. This means that the world is full of supernatural beings that people don’t notice. Vampires, werewolves, goblins, ghosts, demons, and as I explore in this novel, witches.
I tried to write A Witch to Live so that Demonspawn isn’t required reading. I wanted the novel to stand on its own, and not have the reader constantly going “What is he talking about?” However, for those that have read Demonspawn (and hopefully enjoyed), you’ll recognize a few characters and events.
I think the characters turned out pretty well in this novel. I tried to take some of the criticism of other characters I’ve created to heart. For example, Alex Teague was too powerful and dense, the main heroes are Mary Sues. (Note: I didn’t even know what this term meant for the longest time. From what I understand, a Mary Sue is typically a character without flaws, basically a little too perfect). I tried to give the main characters (Kevin, Rachel, even the old and wise Victoria) believable personalities, and room to grow. I’m hoping the audience likes the characters as much as I do.
I’m not sure if you’d call this a series or not. Does a series always follow a particular set of characters, or can it just be in the same world? Anyway, I do have another novel I’m working on that takes place in this world as well, and dropped a few hints in A Witch to Live that maps the direction of the next novel.
Thank you to the beta readers who were an enormous help in getting this novel cleaned up. As always, I gave a mention to you after the copyright. And of course, thank you to the wifey who keeps me going, along with the cats who never let me get any sleep.

I hope you like A Witch to Live. I’m getting back to my roots a little, supernatural topics π Mind Slide was more along the lines of psychics.
Your know, I still haven’t got a Kindle yet π

I bought this book as soon as I saw that it was up, and I must say, you sir, definitely got into the correct line of work as an author. I love your books and can’t wait to find another one. It’d be nice if you’d turn Demonspawn into a series though, with Alex as the main character again.

Thank you much. π
I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I do have more plans for Alex. But it depends on how A Witch to Live is received, and also the novel I’m currently working on.
The novel sounds like it might be a good idea in my head, but I’m also not sure if I can pull it off. π I’ll have a better handle on it after this novel, I think.

I love this book! I loved that it was (in a way) a spin-off of Demon Spawn (a truly great book/story)! Having just read Demon Spawn day before reading this, it was all still so fresh in my mind!
I love your characters! They’re so full of life, not empty shells with names and actions.
I hate spoilers but I can’t wait to read your next book! And hope you’ll follow up with another Dead Living book featuring a much older Aaron and Sam!

Wow the book was simply awesome, characters are well developed and interact with each other very naturally. The development of the story was neither too fast not too slow just perfect. I love that the magic was limited in the world. I was able to relate to Kevin and some of the things he felt; I think he is a very real character, though I feel that he’s been iceberged in this book. I hope that the book is part of a series, there is so much potential and I would love to explore this simple but well crafted world. Victoria seems interesting, Kevin and Kris’s parents look like they could use a book along with Martha. Ah salivating. Fingers crossed and hoping

Awesome, I’m glad you liked it. π Believe me, we haven’t seen the last of Kevin.
Although, what do you mean “iceberged”? π I’ve never heard that term before.

I didn’t know a word that could describe the fact that Kevin’s abilities and magic were just lightly grazed so I made one up. There’s so much to know about him, he is a very interesting character. I’d be friends with him if he were real π

Ah I gotcha now. π Yeah, I held back a little on purpose. I got some feedback saying I overpowered Alex in Demonspawn, so I wanted to be careful how far I took Kevin. But witches are the most powerful in the world I’ve created, more so than vampires and werewolves, even half-demons. There is a lot more to him that we will see. π

Ah got it. I haven’t red the Alex book but I can understand overpowering characters, in the case of Kevin I don’t think that would necessarily apply as the way you described witches all other supernatural creatures are not even allowing them to live even peaceful lives. They must indeed be powerful. But you have already limited that power using ingredients as a bases to invoke magic/spells. Except this is temporary that makes a wonderful limiter to his power. You also make a distinction between witches and full blooded witches which was one of the reasons behind the iceberg comment. Also the cats you made a point to mention them, but they were not explained as to why witches have/need them, So I’m going with using them as ‘familiars’. So many theories jumping around in my head. Aaarrhh! π

Hahha π That’s part of what I like to do though, get theories jumping around in readers’ heads.
