Random Thoughts About Some of My Work
In about a month, A Witch to Live has gathered 7 reviews on Amazon. It took about a year for Mind Slide to gather that many. That book simply hasn’t caught on yet. Mind Slide is the first book I wrote that didn’t have monsters. I wonder if that’s a sign. š It has supernatural elements, but no vampires, zombies, or demons. Or maybe it’s something I’m not seeing. Maybe the cover turns people away, or the blurb. I think Mind Slide is a cool little story. Mason has one singular ability, the power to project his mind, but I like his tale. I liked the “villain” in the story, Gabriel. Maybe it will catch on one day.
People seem to like A Witch to Live, and that’s just awesome. I’ve never attempted a sequel, or spinoff, or series, or whatever you want to call it.Ā I honestly never thought people would comment on Demonspawn or the universe I created there. But I get just as many requests, maybe even more, to continue Alex’s story more than Dead Living. For a while, Dead Living generated a ton of feedback for me. A lot of people wanted to know what was next for the man who could walk with the undead. But Alex has quietly caught up. š I hope when Dead Living gets released again later in the year Alex and Aaron can have another foot race for cooler protagonist. Maybe even Kevin can jump into the mix.
Another story is coming up in the Demonspawn universe, this one concerning another unique character. It’s been a lot of fun writing Jack, but I am nervous about how this one will be received. I love creating characters, and this one I think is great, but I don’t know if readers will take to him. All I can do is write and hope. š

I think sometimes things like that are just good timing. Anyone who lazily searches “Witch” for that self-published series their friend told them about (Debora Geary, with 11 books in the past year, highly rated and doing really well) or that bestseller that they saw in CostCo (A Discovery of Witches) has a chance of finding A Witch to Live and thinking, hmm, I might give that one a chance, too. Mind Slide, on the other hand, is going to have no such find-ability. Witches are on the verge of becoming the new vampires, and you’re there at the right moment. I’m not sure whether to say “good for you” or “lucky timing” but maybe both apply!

Ha you think witches are the next “it” thing? I better start polishing up some more ideas. š

I wonder why werewolves have never really had their day in the sun. The Wolf’s Hour by McCammon was one of the best werewolf novels I ever read.

I’m not sure why I came back to this so late, but werewolves have definitely, definitely had their day in the sun! Paranormal romance is filled with them. Ilona Andrews (okay, were lions, but the wolves are there, too); Patricia Briggs (also a were coyote); Nalini Singh (changelings of all sorts, I think) . . . eh, now I’m drawing blanks. But if you look under paranormal romance, rather than straight paranormal of fantasy, you’ll find an almost infinite selection of werewolf titles, many of which are almost completely uninteresting. For me, werewolves are at cliche level. Witches, on the other hand…well, I hope I haven’t missed the boat. Not my current WIP, not my next WIP, but there’s definitely something appealing about the whole idea of power derived through spellcraft.

I’m with you. I’ve read a bunch of cool werewolf tales. I guess I’m thinking more along the lines of pop culture. Vampires and zombies have gone through an insane popularity boost. I never dreamed vampires and zombies would both get their own shows on TV.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your novels and am looking forward to as many more as you’re willing and able to create!
As I probably mentioned already I’ve been reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy for 30+ years and while I would probably class the current novels as “light reading” they are extremely fun and offer characters, situations, and worlds that are very interesting and engrossing. Well worth the cost of less then half a movie ticket for sure!
I repeatedly saw on “Demon Spawn” on my Amazon recommendations and finally gave the sample a try. Read it, purchased the book right away and after power reading it I purchased everything else you’d written. Just give it some time, ALL of your stories are fun and engaging.
Thank you again for sharing.

Thank you. š Yeah, I readily admit my novels are light reading. I never intend to do anything fancy or make anyone think about life and love. š I’m just out to entertain.

Just so you know, I loved Demonspawn and a Witch to Live. Both were great books. Demonspawn was seriously cool and was hoping for a spinoff. The zombie book was not my thing, but I’m not a fan of zombies. All your books are great though. When are more books coming out?

I’m working on Jack Kursed right now. Very far into it, much more than I thought I’d be at this time. About 55K words in, I think, and most of my novels are around 80K. I don’t foresee any stumbling blocks, I think everything is all laid out.
This is another “Demonspawn universe” novel. I guess it’s safe to say it’s a series at this point. When my cover gets done, I’ll put together a blurb and put it under Coming Soon. And it really is coming soon, too. It’s nice to be ahead of schedule for once.

I absolutely loved Mind Slide! It’s one of my favorite novels of all time. I hope it catches on soon, because more people should read its awesomeness!

I’m glad. š That’s the one novel I haven’t gotten much feedback on. I doubt I’ll ever do a sequel, but Mason and Kelly are pretty cool people.

I just finished both Witch to live and Mind Slide. When i finished Witch to live I was looking for something to read and found Mind Slide. I had now idea you were the author of both. I loved them both and really hope you change your mind about another Mind Slide. There are so many places to go with it. I also want another Witch to Live.
I will be posting a review on Amazon as well as my Google+ account.

Another novel is coming after A Witch to Live. Not sure if you’ve checked out Demonspawn, but that takes place before Witch.
The next novel, Jack Kursed, takes place after. š
